A Classic Chypre, Reimagined Through Memory
Chypre de Grand is inspired by the refined colognes once worn by Maksim’s great-grandfather. A tribute to classic chypre perfumery, reworked with a modern hand.
It opens with bergamot, lime, and white grapefruit: sparkling, bitter-bright, and almost carbonated. The freshness feels crisp and polished, but beneath it, the warmth of the chypre structure begins to rise.
At the heart, Rose de Mai softens the citrus, while beeswax gives the fragrance a golden, honeyed texture. Thai licorice, grown and distilled in local provinces, adds a rare sweet-spicy nuance, balanced by gentle smoke from guaiac wood and the smooth balsamic warmth of styrax, benzoin, and musk accord.
The dry down is classic but lighter in feel: oakmoss, light patchouli, labdanum, and Virginia cedarwood create a mossy, woody-earth base with noble depth and quiet softness.
Chypre de Grand is a modern classic chypre. Fresh citrus in the opening, rose and beeswax in the heart, warm moss and polished woods in the base.
Sparkling citrus above. Warm moss and skin below.

This was the first smell of Maksim Perfumes to me. Which got me hooked and had me say: “The search is finally over!”.
The most striking thing about Chypre de Grand is the juxtaposition between a sparkling, almost carbonated citrus opening and a deeply animalic, mossy floor. I think someone who previously described it as an “animalic 7-Up,” and honestly, it fits.
Thai Licorice & Beeswax, if you know these then you surely love them.
This is where the “Grand” comes in. As the citrus settles, a unique heart of Thai Licorice and Beeswax emerges. In my opinion, this makes CDG unique. In it’s entirety, it’s classical and terrific.
The rose is detectable but not overwhelming by any means. Even for a guy like me who normally do not favor the scent of roses!
As always, purely natural perceiving quality,
